August saw first CPCS test taken at Hewlett’s test centre in Leeds
19-year-old Lee Cockrell is one of the first to take, and pass his CPCS technical test following the revamp of the scheme which came into effect on Friday 1st August.
Lee took the test at Hewlett’s Cross Green Training Centre in Leeds on Friday to obtain a Red (trained plant operator) card. The 10 acre multi terrain complex was recently acknowledged by the CPCS – Construction Plant Competence Scheme – as the first Technical Test Centre in the North East.
Johnny Harrison was the qualified trainer from Hewlett who supervised the test, which was also overseen by Jeff Maughan, CPCS Monitor for ConstructionSkills who polices the scheme. It was following Jeff’s compliance visit to Hewlett’s Training Centre and his subsequent recommendation, that the centre was awarded its official status.
The centre is the largest construction training area in Yorkshire offering ‘live site conditions’ in which to carry out instruction and testing. In addition the modern classroom facilities provide an excellent environment for presentation and study, and for the new theory tests.
Targeting both the civil engineering and building industries, the centre provides an extensive range of training programmes for employer and employee, and covers a wide spectrum of disciplines from telescopic handler training to safety and managerial courses.
Lee has worked for Hewlett for over three years and is one of three generations of Cockrell’s employed by the company. His father and grandfather also work for the company. Keen to further improve his skills after obtaining the CPCS Red card, Lee has now started working towards his blue/green (competence) card.
The Test Centre offers a “one stop shop” for all training requirements from Health and Safety testing to CPCS testing and NVQ provision. For further information about Hewlett Training call 0113 380 7093.
