Hewlett Further Proves Commitment To Environmental Sustainability By Joining Prince’s Mayday Network
Hewlett Civil Engineering Ltd has joined more than 3,000 businesses to become a member of the Mayday Network, an organisation championed by HRH The Prince of Wales. Named after the international ‘Mayday Mayday’ distress signal, the network’s aim is to inspire, engage, support and challenge as many businesses as possible as they work together towards a sustainable future.
This is achieved through activities such as workshops, webinars and other events run by industry and environmental leaders to give Mayday businesses a head start in tackling their carbon footprints and other environmental impacts.
“The pressure to adopt green business practices will only increase as the evidence for supporting adoption mounts up,” said Alan Cooper, Managing Director at Hewlett Civil Engineering: “While carbon emissions are inevitable with the work we do, we all have a responsibility to ensure that these emissions are at a minimum. This partnership presents an opportunity to learn from each other, to showcase best practice and to set an example within the civil engineering and construction sector.
“We fully support the values and aims of The Prince’s Mayday Network and are looking forward to contributing to Network initiatives. We can use our experiences from the business scenarios we see every day to engage with organisations, and further the Network’s cause.”
The Yorkshire region boasts one of the most active Mayday Networks and environment campaigns. As a member of The Prince’s Mayday Network Hewlett will have access to a central point from which it can receive the best practice advice it needs to cut its environmental impact, understand the wider issues of sustainability, engage its staff and achieve its environmental targets.
The Company takes the sustainability challenge facing industry very seriously and has recently installed a 14m wind turbine at its Cross Green Training Centre in Leeds as part of its overall commitment to developing alternative renewable energy sources.
Operating from a network of strategic regional offices throughout the UK, Hewlett is a market leading, privately owned Civil Engineering contractor, with a large directly employed work force. Hewlett’s principal activities comprise civil engineering, building, rail, plant hire and commercial property development.
