Hewlett to 'swing' into action at Lindrick Golf Course
Leeds-based Hewlett Civil Engineering has been given the go ahead to start construction of an underpass that will provide a safe route underneath the A57 for golfers, grounds maintenance staff and equipment at Lindrick Golf Club near Worksop.
The 18-hole golf course, which straddles the A57 - with the first 12 holes of the course on the south side of the road - has been granted permission by Rotherham Borough Council to install a concrete underpass linking the two halves of the golf course and offering an alternative for golfers who currently have to cross the busy road to access holes 12 to 17.
Working in conjunction with Sheffield-based Consulting Engineers Eastwood & Partners, Hewlett is due to start initial works on 1st February. There will be temporary road closures in force on the 6th and 13th February between the hours of 22.00 and 10.00am.
Comments Tony Wass from Hewlett: "This is an unusual and challenging project. The proposed underpass is, in essence, a large (3 m high x 2.5 m wide), prefabricated, internally illuminated, concrete box culvert that will be used to convey golfers, course maintenance staff and equipment underneath the A57 without impeding surface traffic operations.
"The underpass will require significant construction activity, lasting approximately 15 weeks. However, during this time it is of critical importance that the golf course remains operating as normal and that traffic management plans are in place to minimise potential disruption."
