Hewlett Wins Major Contract For Gas Storage Facility In Cheshire
Leading civil engineering firm Hewlett has won a £1.6m gas storage contract at Storengy’s new underground gas storage facility in Cheshire that will export gas to the National Grid.
Storengy UK, a subsidiary of GDF SUEZ, is currently developing the Stublach Gas Storage Project, a salt cavern storage facility. Once completed, the scheme will be one of the main storage facilities in the country and will enhance the security of supply to the UK market. Up to 28 caverns will be created, the first 10 of which are currently being solution-mined and will be commissioned in 2013.
In making the announcement, Hewlett’s Managing Director Alan Cooper said the contract win would help safeguard jobs and added: “It is very welcome. It is a reflection of the skills we have and our expertise in gas storage. This project will provide valuable capacity at a time when the UK is looking to increase its gas storage capabilities”
The gas storage contract at Stublach Underground Gas Storage Project in Northwhich, will see Hewlett construct foundations and bases for numerous items of process equipment and electrical control cabinets across the existing site. Approximately 1800 cubic metres of concrete is required to construct 17 large bases and many small pipe supports, pipe plinths and foundations for pipe racks.
Hewlett will also be installing drainage, constructing a boiler room plus the construction of a reinforced concrete site road approximately 1km in length.
Work will start immediately and is planned to be completed by May 2012.
