Hewlett...award winners for 2nd consecutive year

It has been a challenging 12 months for everybody in construction, a time when businesses have had to streamline and adapt to a fast-changing marketplace. However one Leeds-based company that is still out-performing its competitors and remaining head and shoulders above the rest in the eyes of its employees is Hewlett Civil Engineering.

Hewlett has recently been crowned the winner, for the second consecutive year, at this years’ Contract Journal’s prestigious Best Places to Work in Construction Awards, an annual ceremony which recognises excellence in employment practices and celebrates the importance of employee satisfaction and engagement in the construction industry.

Says Alan Cooper, Managing Director at Hewlett: “It is a fantastic achievement for all involved as fundamentally it is based on what our employees think about working here.

“What makes this even more important is that in these very trying times when the company has been forced to take actions that are unpleasant, everyone who took the time to respond has made it clear that Hewlett is still a good place to work.

“The company prides itself on recruiting and retaining the best people in the industry, and that is obviously reflective in this award. Being one of the best companies goes way beyond the bottom line. It's about excelling in every area throughout the workplace and our commitment to our most important asset - our workforce.

“All our employees deliver real benefits for us, including better staff retention, reduced recruitment costs and greater financial performance. Hewlett is the Best Place to Work because we have the best people. We are proud to receive this accolade and from a personal point of view I am proud to be working with the ‘best people’.”

The Awards – now in their fifth year, and sponsored by ConstructionSkills - are a benchmark in the industry. They’re open to any firm involved in the construction industry, from the biggest to the very smallest contractor, and from consultants to product manufacturers.

Located within the commercial complex at Thorpe Park, Hewlett is one of Yorkshire’s foremost privately owned multi-disciplinary group of companies whose principle activities comprise civil engineering, building infrastructure, the hire of plant and machinery and commercial property development.
