Scheme Outline: The stabilisation of an earth embankment located in an environmentally sensitive area with access only by rail.

Client: Kier Group/Network Rail.

Additional Details:

• Restricted access to site by Rail only, created a logistic problem for the supply of plant and materials to the workforce.

• Hewlett’s supply chain relationships and experience in the management of possessions and Road Rail excavators and plant reduced the delivery programme by 30%.

• Careful control of overhead electrical equipment and the live Rail environment were utilised on a daily basis.

• In house Safety critical staff ensured a smooth operation to completion.

• This was complimented by the utilisation of local partnered staff which enabled greater access to pre-planned possessions at weekends.

• Specialised soil nail equipment developed on a previous scheme overcame access issues, which to other package contractors, was a major problem.

• The site team managed the local environment exceptionally well and minimised the disruption to residents on both sides of the line.

• After a large number of night shifts not one complaint about any noise or disruption, a compliment to any management team in such a closed environment.
