Scheme Outline: Construction of bases and access roads to remote Western Scottish location for new wind farm. The Western Southern Uplands is some 700 metres above sea-level and designated as an area of environmental sensitivity.

Additional Details:

  • Creating 2km of access roads to dissect the 350 hectare site.
  • Use of excavated material from the turbine bases for road construction to minimise import and support the ‘natural’ appearance.
  • Careful segregation of stripped surface vegetation for subsequent reinstatement.
  • Excavation in rock of 36 turbine bases.
  • Drilled rock anchors to 34 bases.
  • Gravity pour to two bases of 250m³ reinforced concrete - in 5m³ lots due to restricted access.
  • Ecological and environmental consultants included Scottish Natural Heritage, RSPB, Carsphairn and New Cumnock Community Councils.
